The International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala, has over the years evolved into the key platform for non-fiction filmmaking in the country, organised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy for the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala as part of its endeavour to catalyse a vibrant documentary and short film movement. Increasing accessibility and affordability of media technology has led to a boom in the production and scope of films. The medium is now used by image-makers from all walks of life to express, experiment and learn. The democratization of technology has given more space to diverse voices often breaking barriers of capital. The festival aims to map and reflect the exploding and imploding nature of the medium in its many facets of creativity and resistance. IDSFFK is an Oscar qualifying festival for documentaries.
