Synopsis

Novello, a small town in the Langhe region, is famous because its citizens have the best memory in Italy. A young woman decides to bring there her elderly father, who suffers from amnesia, not because she believes in Novello’s “miracle”, but because the man was actually born there, and she hopes that he can heal by retracing his past.



Biofilmography

Bruno Ugioli was born in Turin in 1989. After graduating in Cinema in 2011, he studied writing for comics at the Holden School, and screenwriting for animation at the Animoka production company. Since 2012 he works as a filmmaker, directing short films, music videos, commercials and documentaries. With his friends and colleagues Domenico Bruzzese and Mauro Mola he teaches filmmaking at the International School of Comics in Turin. They participated at five editions of the Piemonte Documenteur Filmfest, a festival dedicated to the genre of mockumentary. They won many collateral prizes and the best movie award with their Novel of lost memories.

Director's statement

Novel of lost memories is our attempt to talk about memory in a different and original way. First and foremost the memory of places, but also the personal memory of the main character, Italo, who shares his name and his issues of amnesia with our Country.
Italy seems to have lost its historical memory and we believe it is important to recover it. For this reason our protagonist is in search of his past, retracing his steps, looking for a lost memory and his own identity. We hope that our viewers can do the same.
Ours is a story in which irony and dramatic moments coexist, as well as a sense of community and intimacy. The language of the documentary proved to be precious to lead the viewer into the thoughts and emotions of the characters, demonstrating once again the great potential of the mockumentary.
