Director's statement
Religion is another central theme: it emerges both from the title, Absolutio (Absolution), and from the reference to the Last Supper, reinterpreted for the masters. The latter consciously accept their fate, as if they wanted to “buy” eternal salvation, a clear reference to indulgences. Furthermore, the cruelty of power is underlined by the Nazi names attributed to the masters sitting at the table.
The intent is to distress the viewer, immersing him in a visual melancholy. The beginning, deliberately claustrophobic, focuses on narrow details, and then opens onto the central scene: a table around which the masters feast, while the naked and chained girl eats their leftovers. The progression of the scene underlines the growing greed and greed of power: the masters begin to eat with composure, but their behavior becomes increasingly dirty and animalistic, culminating in a climax that represents the spread of their voracity.
The stark images were intentionally chosen to replace dialogue, conveying the main themes without the need for words. Every visual detail is designed to convey the sense of oppression, decadence and reflection on power and its derivatives.
